Originally I developed Greyscales for my Black and White (BW) HP Deskwriter and released it in late 1992 and updated for Color in 1993. People have asked me to keep up with the latest driver revisions and this release does just that by supporting Hewlett Packard's new Universal Driver 5.0 which support both BW and color printers including the Deskwriter, 510, C, 500C, 550C plus the new 520C and 560C.
Greyscales is designed to give you better quality QuickDraw grays. While colors are obviously not grays, if your program uses a QuickDraw gray pattern to define a lighter shade of some color, then Greyscales should step in and give you a better color too.
This release, version 5.0 only applies to Driver 5.0. My previous version, 2.3 is still in effect for all older drivers. By the way, both “grey” and “gray” are correctly spelled. Since “gray” with an “a” is more popular, I chose the name “Greyscale” with an “e” just to be distinctive.
Please read the "Greyscales Made Easy" document to learn how to install and use the Greyscales and where Greyscales can help you.
